About this picture …

Passengers at Pickering station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, a spectacular steam-operated heritage line between Pickering and Whitby on the northeast coast of England. The passengers have just alighted — or alit if you prefer more old-fashioned grammar — from a train pulled from Whitby by LMS Black Five No. 45428 ‘Eric Treacy’, named after a former Bishop of Wakefield who was one of the truly great railway photographers.
