About this picture …

The Lincolnshire Fens at Bunker’s Hill, just northwest of Boston on the way to Lincoln, and a little east of the River Witham as it flows down to the Wash twelve miles away. It was steam power in the 19th century that produced the first effective, long-lasting drainage of the Fens, creating places to call home and re-invigorating Britain’s agricultural industry.
