Ponies and traps out on what looks like a cold and misty day near Walkington in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The photograph is believed to date back to around 1900. Queen Victoria died the following year, and was succeeded by her son Edward VII when he was aged sixty. Edward was a popular monarch at home, and in his short reign (just nine years) he worked hard to foster friendship with old adversaries France and Russia. See Home Page.

2 Grout. Part. Rota.

3 Apart. Atop. Groat.
