The following seven items have been tagged The Authorized Version.
The Authorized Version is the name given to an English translation of the Bible that appeared in 1611. Commissioned by King James VI and II, and commonly called the King James Version, it was written in elegant and (even then) rather old-fashioned English intended exclusively for church use, and primarily for reading aloud. Though not the first English translation of the Bible, it had a far-reaching influence on English language and culture ever afterwards, and was recommended by schoolmaster NL Clay as a model of ‘straightforward English’.
