BR rebuilt Merchant Navy class 35028 ‘Clan Line’ at Bristole Temple Meads station in 2012. The words train, station and express can all be used as a noun and also as a verb. A good many railway-related words are the same: funnel, steam, track, tender, wheel and whistle. But arrive is a verb, and can’t be used as a noun: try putting the, an, or his in front of it, and notice how you feel at a dead end. On the other hand, the word engine (and the more correct word locomotive) can’t be used as a verb: try putting I/you/we etc. before it; the result feels awkward.
