The Gossip in Gavrillac

Rafael Sabatini introduces us to Andre-Philippe Moreau, the hero of his novel ‘Scaramouche’. We hear that apart from a sense of fun and a certain cynicism, he had no inheritance, not even a father, but was brought up with a Breton nobleman in Gavrillac as his godson. The townsfolk inferred a closer relationship, but Sabatini hints they were mistaken.
