The Falkland Islands

The Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean were discovered and named by the British in 1690, and a British settlement was established there in 1765. Formal government did not follow until 1833, but since then the islands have been a British possession (despite invasion by Argentina in 1982) and the islanders remain overwhelmingly in favour of British rule.
