Main Text

I don’t use cookies or anything else to track your visits to Clay Lane. However, you may be tracked if you actually play a YouTube video, or if you visit my profile page on the crowdfunding website Buy Me a Coffee. This page explains a little more.

To comply with the UK’s GDPR (data protection) legislation, I will explain here how I use cookies and similar data-gathering technologies on Clay Lane. Fortunately, this can be kept brief. I don’t use cookies or anything else to gather personally identifiable information about you or your visit. This is a cookie-free, no-tracking website.

YouTube Video

For YouTube videos, I have used a technique called a façade, which means that the video is not loaded until you specifically request it. Even then, thanks to the embedding code I have used, as recommended by YouTube, you should not be tracked unless you actually play the video, though it is up to YouTube to honour this.

‘Buy Me a Coffee’

I use the crowdfunding website Buy Me a Coffee not only for donations, but also for general correspondence — which is entirely free, by the way. Their platform acts as a gate-keeper against spam, and is more secure than ordinary email or anything I could devise. There is no need to register (and so no password to remember!), and they give you the option of remaining anonymous. Naturally, I won’t sell or give away any information you provide. Buy Me a Coffee does use cookies, and you may be asked to give or withhold consent whenever you visit their site.
