Main Text

My name is Nicholas. I am the creator and editor of Clay Lane. I’m not an artificial intelligence or a committee. I’m an ordinary person, and Clay Lane is a hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind website. As the White Knight might say, it’s my own invention.

You are most welcome to write to me about any aspect of Clay Lane. I will do my best to answer your questions, but it will have to be as a native speaker of English, not as a teacher. I’m not involved in education, and I’ve really no idea about what today’s examiners want, or how you’d do in their tests. I’m not setting myself up as an authority, just hoping to brighten your day with something good to read and a puzzle or two.

To help cut down on junk mail, please get in touch through my profile on Buy Me a Coffee. This is a crowdfunding site, but a donation isn’t required and you don’t even have to register. All aspects of Clay Lane are completely free.

Clay Lane is intended for adult readers. If you are under 18, please ask a friend or family member for help with this site.

About Nicholas

Many years ago now, I realised that for reasons of health I’d have to work from home, and for myself; so I began collecting interesting passages from literature, and teaching myself to make web pages. My ideas on good writing (and my opinions on much else besides) I owe to immersion in the works of CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien, PG Wodehouse, Agatha Christie, Jane Austen, and John Buchan, which I still read and re-read with undiminished enthusiasm; but it was my great-uncle NL Clay’s vision that gave the collection breadth and purpose. I hope you enjoy reading my site as much as I enjoy creating it.
