St Wilfrid and the Sheriff’s Wife

In 678, Wilfrid of York was thrown in jail by the King of Northumbria. When his gaoler’s wife fell seriously ill, Wilfrid was asked to help. Harbouring no ill-will, he cheerfully blessed some water and sprinkled it on the lady’s face. Within minutes, she was completely back to normal as if nothing had happened.
