When St Nicholas heard that a poor man’s daughters were at risk of being exploited as sex-slaves, he secretly used money inherited from his own parents to settle them in safety. When the grateful father discovered his benefactor’s identity, Nicholas begged him not to reveal it while the saint still lived.
